Cruise ship firm Royal Caribbean is where one of the biggest popstars of the 2000’s, Kimberley Wyatt, quite literally trod the boards. The American – one sixth of band the Pussycat Dolls – began her career on the cruise line as a dancer. She was a revue on Royal Caribbean’s Explorer of the Seas for two years, before hitting the charts with the likes of Nicole Scherzinger and Ashley Roberts. And years later she is back with a dance class of her own, which she aims to use as a “tool for happiness” for passengers on board.

Kimberly, 37, spoke to Express.co.uk about her return to the ship which sparked her career.

She said: “I began my career on board a Royal Caribbean ship so it’s kind of like coming full circle.

“It’s my very own dance class and it feels quite good.

“I love dance, it’s so inclusive, and I am taking it to people’s holidays to use it as a tool for happiness and fitness while abroad, with their family or couple, or whatever you may be.”

The Got To Dance judge, who will be on board Explorer of the Seas from, July, added: “Not everyone is super confident and outgoing, and lot of people are quite shy and don’t like showing off in front of people.

“I am one of those really shy people.

“Sometimes a class is what you need to find your confident through your relationship with yourself physically and emotionally.

“Then next time you go on a dance floor, maybe you will have a bit more confidence.”

The Buttons singer added the family-friendly routines, termed Bring Your Heels, would feature a variety of styles and backing tracks.

She told how they would start with a ballet fusion, then move on to aspects of yoga and jazz and contemporary styles.

With the mix of moves, it is hoped the fun routines will appeal to all.

Yet she told Express.co.uk how dancing on the waves, as opposed to solid ground, would also add a splash of difference to her routine.

She said: “Luckily with Explorer it is a vast ship, it’s really quite sturdy and steady, so you might feel the odd wave but it’s nothing that will throw you off.

“But, if anything, I’ll use it to add a bit if extra energy to the dance.

“The idea of landing in a lovely gorgeous tropical type place and going on a cruise and doing what I love, and am passionate about and inspiring others, it is kind of a win win.”

Ben Bouldin, AVP and Managing Director, Royal Caribbean UK & Ireland, said: “We are thrilled to be partnering with the phenomenally talented Kimberly Wyatt this summer.

“This first-at-sea experience is another way we’re providing added value to guests – something we’re committed to doing at every opportunity.”

Meanwhile Royal Caribbean recently revealed the launch of its first ever private island in the Bahamas, Perfect Day island at Cococay, exclusively for its cruise ship customers.
