Norwegian is the world’s fifth-largest low-cost airline. It operates 500 routes to 150 destinations. The budget carrier flies in Europe, North Africa, Middle East, Thailand, Caribbean, the USA and South America. Norwegian has been voted ‘Europe’s best low-cost carrier’ by passengers for six consecutive years at SkyTrax World Airline Awards and has been awarded ‘World’s best low-cost long-haul airline’ for the last five years. So how much hand luggage are fliers with Norwegian allowed to bring onboard their flight?

Norwegian passengers can bring one carry-on bag free-of-charge into the cabin as hand luggage. The bag cannot measure more than 55cm x 40cm x 23cm.

On LowFare, LowFare+, Flex and Premium tickets, this item of cabin baggage cannot weigh more than 10kg. For PremiumFlex the bag can weigh up to 15 kg.

Due to onboard weight restrictions, hand luggage on Norwegian Dubai flights can weigh no more than 8kg.

Norwegian also allows fliers to bring one small personal item to be placed under the seat in front of them. This can be a small handbag, a slim laptop case or duty-free bag, for instance.

This bag cannot exceed the measurements of 25cm x 33cm x 20cm. Norwegian advises packing essentials in the small personal bag.

The airline could measure your hand luggage at the gate so it’s important to get the bag size right.

Norwegian states on its website: “We have limited cabin storage, so your hand baggage may be measured at the gate.

“Hand baggage that exceeds the limits of your ticket type will be stowed in the aircraft hold at a charge, per leg.”

If passengers think they might exceed Norwegian’s hand luggage limits, it is cheaper to purchase extra checked baggage online (up to four hours before departure).

There is no hand baggage allowance for infant tickets (under two years), but you can bring a reasonable amount of baby food and milk/formula for the flight, explains Norwegian.

If you purchase a child ticket (two to 11 years), your child can bring the amount of hand baggage and checked baggage that their ticket type allows.

As for checked baggage, Norwegian doesn’t permit any hold luggage on LowFare tickets.

However, on a LowFare+ ticket, passengers can bring a bag weighing up up 20kg.

For Flex, Premium and PremiumFlex, travellers are permitted two bags, each weighing up to 20kg.

Each bag must not exceed 250cm x 79cm x 112cm (L x H x W) with maximum circumference of 300cm.

Excess baggage charges apply to any items over the two baggage limit and to items over 20kg – £11 per kilo, per leg.
